(Sorry for not updating this over break; I'll do better)
The Track Workout
I'm obviously not going to post another workout since Josh gave us one already, but I'll give you my comments having just finished it. First, my times:
2:59, 3:00, 3:00, 3:01, 3:09, 3:16, 3:07, 2:59
Yes, I did slow down for sets 5,6, and 7, and I got a little lazy with the timing so it might have been more like 3:10 b/t those sets (I'm okay with that- I wanted ~1:1 work:rest). Yes this is a hard workout. How can you make it easier?
1) Run with a friend, even if they're not doing the workout with you. I went with a friend who ran 8 90 sec 400s w/ 3 min rest, waited a while, then ran the last 400m of the day with me. This made it a lot easier b/c I had some external motivation, and we were running at the same pace so I could use him as a guide as I got tired.
2) Finishing this workout, especially @ 3min/800m the whole way, requires a lot of mental toughness. Don't think about how much it hurts, or how much you want it to be over. Think about how much this will help our team and the kind of example you want to set for people. Those last 2 800s got faster b/c I decided to stop whining to myself about how much it hurt and finish strong.
3) Pacing is vital. I ran inside, so I was running 45 sec laps. If you run any laps fast (<45 sec) it will kill you. Worry some about each lap time, not just the total time for the 800m.
Good luck.
